PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Overactive bladder (OAB) is a common urologic condition that may impair quality of life, taking a significant toll on a number of health domains. While a number of safe and effective treatments for OAB exist, discontinuation rates of up to 90% have been reported within the first year of therapy. Unsatisfactory treatment outcome is, unfortunately, a common occurrence for patients with OAB who are treated with first-line therapy. In this activity, a urologist and a primary care physician discuss care options for a 69-year-old woman with OAB who has discontinued treatment with an antimuscarinic agent due to bothersome side effects. The faculty will review second-line treatment options for this individual, including combination therapy. Third-line and investigational OAB treatment options are also discussed.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After completing the activity, the participant should be better able to:Implement evidence-based guidelines for the management of OABEmploy individualized treatment strategies for a patient with persistent OAB symptoms who discontinued first-line therapy because of adverse events
