PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This case examines the relationships between psoriasis and metabolic disease and cardiovascular disease. To optimize treatment of psoriasis, it is useful to treat metabolic syndrome along with therapy for skin symptoms, especially in cases of obesity. Many new therapies are available for treating psoriasis, and therapeutic choices should be decided upon with the patient. In women of childbearing age, the effects of the drugs on the fetus, as well as after birth during breastfeeding, need to be discussed with the patients on a case by case basis, and all options considered.
