PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This activity will provide learners with the necessary skills to identify patients within their practice who are likely to benefit from HIV-prevention strategies. Practical methods for assessing HIV risk will be presented, as will interventions for educating patients about the importance of knowing their HIV status and the status of their sexual partners, consistent use of condoms, identifying and minimizing high-risk behaviors, and utilizing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as part of a comprehensive strategy for HIV prevention.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
As a result of participating in the activity, learners should be better able to: Review the potential utility of HIV-prevention strategies in patients at increased risk for infectionIdentify patients who are likely to benefit from HIV-prevention strategies and counsel them regarding these interventionsImplement HIV-prevention services among appropriate patients within your practiceEmploy evidence-based strategies to ensure that education is provided to patients in a culturally competent manner
