PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The selection of endoscopic resection technique for precancerous lesions in the gastrointestinal mucosa is determined by lesion size, location, morphology, and surface characteristics, as well as by the patient’s clinical history and any comorbidities. A recent case study of a patient who had developed a 2-cm polyp, which was later confirmed as a sessile serrated polyp, provides the backdrop for the exploration of submucosal lifting and resection techniques, facilitating removal of the lesion off of the deeper muscle layers. These techniques include standard polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection, and endoscopic submucosal dissection.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After completing the activity, the participant should be better able to:Evaluate the spectrum of chromoendoscopic staining techniques to optimally identify and assess adenomatous polyps and other precancerous lesions in the gastric mucosaInstitute effective submucosal lifting methods to ensure complete endoscopic mucosal resection of polyps in the GI tract
