PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Obesity is a well-established and highly prevalent public health problem in the United States and throughout the world. Even in the absence of obesity, most people tend to gain weight gradually over time—typically just under a pound per year. Yet even these very modest increases in weight can increase the risk of serious comorbidities, including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke, hypertension (HTN), sleep apnea, arthritis, kidney disease, and obesity-related cancer. This Case Clinic employs interactive polling questions with expert feedback on optimal dietary management of an obese man who understands the risks of his condition but has failed in his efforts to lose weight by following the traditional advice to limit fat and calorie intake.
