PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
A better understanding of state-of-the-art screening and staining techniques and the ability to use them are essential to identifying and classifying lesions in gastrointestinal mucosa at the earliest precancerous stages. Of critical importance to improved detection rates is performing a high-quality colonoscopy, which includes good bowel preparation; use of split dosing; careful inspection and adequate distension of the colon; and use of dye-based chromoendoscopy staining and virtual chromoendoscopy. Clinician familiarity with these methods, as well as understanding of morphological characteristics of adenomas and serrated polyps, will help achieve optimal outcomes.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After completing the activity, the participant should be better able to:Evaluate the spectrum of chromoendoscopic staining techniques to optimally identify and assess adenomatous polyps and other precancerous lesions in the gastric mucosaImplement quality-improvement tools to increase adherence to oral staining products and improve overall endoscopy services
