PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Hyperthermic conditions, such as malignant hyperthermia and exertional heat stroke, are medical emergencies that necessitate immediate recognition and treatment. Healthcare professionals need to know which factors predispose people to developing a hyperthermic emergency. If not treated immediately, patients may suffer neurologic sequelae, cognitive effects, multi-system organ failure, and death. This educational activity will review current strategies for preventing, recognizing, and treating hyperthermic conditions. Patient cases will be used to illustrate best practices in the management of hyperthermic conditions.
