PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
While the incidence of diagnosed cases of colorectal cancer has fallen in recent years, from 140,000 new cases in 2014 to 135,000 in 2017—due in large part to increased rates of screening among at-risk groups—there has been a troubling increase recently in earlier-onset colorectal cancer, especially in young patients, highlighting the need for timely screening measures and accurate identification, lifting, and resections of precancerous lesions in the GI mucosa at the earliest stages. This session follows on the heels of the first installment in the initiative, Effective Identification and Resection of Precancerous Lesions in the GI Mucosa, and reprises key critical themes, including the types of lesions that may appear in the GI tract, their endoscopic features, staining technologies, and available lifting and resection methods.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After completing the activity, the participant should be better able to:Evaluate the spectrum of chromoendoscopic staining techniques to optimally identify and assess adenomatous polyps and other precancerous lesions in the gastric mucosaInstitute effective submucosal lifting methods to ensure complete endoscopic mucosal resection of polyps in the GI tractImplement quality-improvement tools to increase adherence to oral staining products and improve overall endoscopy services
