PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Evidence-based screening guidelines for sexually transmitted Infections (STI) can be easily implemented in primary care settings using mobile application software and reliable office-based, non-invasive testing methods. This course will cover current screening recommendations and areas of primary and secondary clinical prevention. Resources for behavioral counseling and risk reduction strategies will be reviewed as well as diagnostic methods, pharmacologic treatment, follow-up and reporting of common STI’s and vaginitis infections. A case study format will be used and innovative evidence-based mobile apps that can be easily accessed in the clinical setting will be demonstrated as an effective resource to follow updated screening, diagnosis and treatment guidelines.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
As a result of participating in the activity, learners should be better able to: Identify screening recoemmendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) for early detection of STIs.Describe primary and secondary levels of prevention of STIs.Distinguish presentation of common STIs and vaginitis infections.Formulate a treatment plan of care that includes prescribing and follow-up recommendations based on current CDC guidelines.
